How to keep your new bi-fold doors in top condition for years to come

bi fold door installation

Installing bi-fold doors can drastically improve the look of your home. Not only do they bring aesthetic value to your property, but they also bring lots of light, space and room to your home. We can’t think of a better investment - although bi-fold doors are relatively low-maintenance it’s important to know what you can do to make sure they stay in top condition for years to come. Here, we’ve laid out some of our top tips!

Wipe down the frame with mild soap and warm water only

To help prevent wearing away at the coating and paint on and around your bi-fold doors, it’s best to steer clear of any harsh cleaning solutions and sprays. Your best bet is to use a solution of warm water and some type of mild detergent to gently wipe away dust and/or stains that settle on the surface of your bi-fold doors.

Regularly check the running tracks

The running tracks are at the bottom of the frame, where your bi-fold doors slide in and out. It’s best to keep a lookout in case any small debris gets caught in the tracks, which might lead to a snag in the mechanism. This also helps make sure the alignment of your doors stays intact. We recommend you vacuum your running tracks once a month or so whenever you do a spring clean!

Clean the glass in your bi-fold door with care

Make sure you use the right cleaning products to wipe down your glass with a microfibre cloth. Using the right solutions and materials will help to prevent streaks left behind on the glass, as well as small scratches, which can lead to a dull appearance over time.

Lubricate the moving parts of your doors

In order to help keep the hardware of your door operating smoothly, we recommend using a silicone-based lubricant for the top and bottom tracks, hinges, and pivot points. Then, move the doors in and out to help evenly distribute the lubricant and wipe away any excess.
